1) How has Dr. Lo and the staff at East Bay Vision Center helped shape your experience with Ortho-K?
“I have been Dr. Lo’s patient for 10 years now. Dr.Lo has always been super helpful and explains every process very thoroughly. She mentioned how beneficial it would be for me to use Ortho-K lenses, because I was going through puberty, and seeing how much my prescription increased within a year, I decided to try out these lenses. The process was seamless and very comfortable to ease into!”
2) Personally, what benefits of Ortho-K are you happiest about?
“The best outcome of these lenses would be the fact that my prescription hasn’t changed since my first use. I’ve been using these lenses since 2009, and have been consistent ever since. I don’t have to ever worry about my eyesight getting worse when using these lenses or having my poor vision affect any part of my life during high school or college experience, especially playing sports. Especially during this time, I don’t have to worry about my glasses fogging up when I am wearing a mask, or worry about sleeping in my contacts during the day.”
3) What was your experience like learning to use Ortho-K lenses and how would you describe your comfort with the contact lenses now? Were there challenges you had to overcome?”
“The experience was fairly simple, and with my doctor helping me along the way, I never felt alone transitioning from glasses to these lenses. Whenever I had questions or any concerns, the doctor always answered it thoroughly. Additionally, with the frequent routines to check in on me, I always felt good about the health of my eyes and how well the lenses work for me. I am comfortable with the lenses now, and it is part of my second nature!”
“The challenging part is maintaining consistency. Now that I am an adult, I lose a lot of my time and fixed schedule in comparison to middle school, high school, and even college. Sometimes I lack sleep, or I’m too tired to wear it for the night and that results in poor vision for the day. To overcome this, I set a schedule."
